About this joint

A box joint (also called a finger joint) closes a corner with square fingers that alternate across the width of both boards, every one cut to the same width. The interlock adds long-grain gluing surface rather than a mechanical lock, so the corner depends on glue and on fingers cut to a consistent pitch.
